02 Feb | Expo Dubai 2020: connecting minds, creating the future
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, attended the signature of Italy’s agreement to participate in Expo Dubai 2020, the Farnesina announced on its official Twitter account on 20 January. “Italy is working together with its friends in the United Arab Emirates to ensure the complete success of Dubai 2020”, said Minister Alfano during the signing ceremony, which was also attended by his Emirati counterpart, Sheikh Abdallah bin Zayed al Nahyan. “The focus is on three priority areas – opportunities, mobility and sustainability”, added Italy’s chief diplomat, today on a mission to the Gulf state to take part in the third round of the Italy-United Arab Emirates Strategic Dialogue.
In November 2013, the United Arab Emirates won the right to host Expo 2020 in Dubai. For the first time, the Universal Exposition will be held in the MENASA (Middle East, North Africa, South Asia) area.
Ever since the Great Exhibition of 1851, Universal Expos have been among the world’s biggest, most enduring events. For six months, each Exposition attracts millions of visitors who are invited to explore the pavilions, exhibitions and cultural events put together by hundreds of participants, which include countries, international organizations and companies.
The theme of the Dubai Universal Exposition will be “Connecting minds, creating the future”, reflecting the spirit of cooperation that drives the EAU to explore new paths for development and innovation. The chosen theme means that the Dubai EXPO 2020 will be a Universal Exposition of never before seen scope, a catalyst that will connect minds from all over the world, and invite participants to cooperate on common challenges around the subthemes of Mobility, Sustainability and Opportunity.
